What does it mean to be sanctioned?
Amateur road racing clubs sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) allow racers to accumulate points that can qualify them for a MotoAmerca license so they can race at the professional/national level.
In order for a club to be sanctioned, they must comply with guidelines set forth by the AMA; for the MRA, that includes:
- Paying an annual charter fee ($150)
- Pay a sanctioning fee ($150) for each race event
- Ensure that every racer who registers to compete has a current and valid AMA membership (approximately $49/year)
As a racer, there are additional perks to being an AMA member that can be read on their website, including Free Roadside Assistance when you sign up for auto-renewal!
